Some of his top tracks have generated over 50,000 combined plays on SoundCloud and has earned the attention of one of music’s most prolific curators. Meet MOJVKI

Where are you from?

Johannesburg, South Africa but resides in Cape Town

Your SoundCloud profile bio has the year ‘2000’ in it. What does it represent?

haha it represents the year I was born.

You have a pretty eclectic selection of samples like your “CANT STOP” track that features Loose Ends’ 1985 “You Can’t Stop the Rain.” How do you source your samples? Did you grow up listening to this music?

Well I source my samples from just about anywhere, I thank my family members and some friends of mine for exposing me to 90s, 80s music and etc ... I've always been exposed to it without realising when I was younger and now that I'm a little older to understand I appreciate it more, hence the sample.

“Despite being from South Africa, the influences in my music taste really came from the Soundcloud world which is literally worldwide…”

The first track of yours we stumbled upon, “Chaka West” features your own flip on Chaka Khan’s “What You Gonna Do For Me” and Kanye West’s “Stronger.” This isn’t the first time Ye and Chaka appeared on the same track with Ye’s famous breakout single “Through the Wire” that sampled Chaka’s “Through the Fire.” Was your choice to reunite these iconic artists intentional? If so, what made you decide on these two tracks form these artists?

Yeah it kind of was , because at first I literally only chopped the Chaka khan sample and it really reminded me of "through the wire" so I just decided to involve a Kanye acapella being "stronger" .. and it blended perfectly, I love both tracks , so I decided to call it Chaka West.

Your SoundCloud profile reps Johannesburg and Cape Town. In what ways has your culture, surroundings, and upbringing influenced your taste in music?

Despite being from South Africa , the influences in my music taste really came from the Soundcloud world which is literally worldwide, but in regards to my surroundings in South Africa definitely the many genres we have as a nation trying to incorporate that sound in my music and put my twist to it.

What is your process when producing a track or a remix? Do you start with a sample or do you lay down your own percussion first?

As corny as it is , it always depends on the day.. but 80% of the time im chopping up samples or trying to figure out a melody then I'll lay some percussive elements to it.

Having Featured on Soulection's platform really means the world to me because like minded people will definitely enjoy my craft I would think.
